Caftans Are Back! Would You Wear One?

First it was turbans, and now it’s caftans. That’s right — the ’70s fashion staple made famous by Mrs. Roper on Three’s Company has flowed from the beaches to the streets this summer on some unexpected stars. In July, Jessica Simpson floated on air during her birthday getaway with boyfriend Eric Johnson, strolling through Capri in a plunging orange and giraffe-print caftan that made for the perfect shore-to-shopping look. This weekend, we spotted not only uber-stylist Rachel Zoe in a dramatic leopard print caftan in the Hamptons, but also Hillary Clinton getting seriously glam in bold turquoise and navy caftan for her daughter Chelsea’s rehearsal dinner in Rhinebeck, NY. Is it nostalgia? Inspiration from Sex and the City 2? Are we all just sick of tight jeggings? We think the caftan’s voluminous cut paired with exotic prints and luxurious fabrics make it the perfect end of summer look—glamorous and comfortable. Tell us: What do you think? Would you wear a caftan? — Mai Dinh

I thought Hillary’s caftan was fabuloous and smiled immediately when I saw the photo. The color on her was great and she looked so relaxed and glowing – her hair was softly styled and she just looked wonderful – Bill too! This is not your typical caftan – it was fitted with V-neck and cleavage – very subtle and sexy and I thought it had a slimming effect. For you style less boobs out there, a caftan is just NOT a muumuu! And geez, give the woman a little credit for breaking away from her tailored pant sets. It’s all over her face how relaxed and happy she felt and that’s all that matters – I’m sure Chelsea gave her stamp of approval or Mom would have never worn it. As for the pouf in Chelsea’s skirt – not my personal taste but it was beautiful on her.

a kaftan is not meant to be worn in the beach. it is a very stlish and fairly expensive traditional wear of North Africa especially Morocco. what these stars are wearing are not kaftans but just an imitation of it in a modern way. please at least google th word and see what it looks like before judging it. for me, i do wear em and i enjoy em as they are very comfortable and beautiful to look at, if you ever wanna make an interance, try one on.

this isn’t a caftan at all…caftan is more glamour and prettier ; it’s a traditional clothes from Morocco ( north of africa ),you can see pictures of caftan in google.

I am a caftan designer from morocco based in boston,a caftan can be called after every long dress with long sleeves that has the shape of “T”.
sure,in Morocco,a caftan is a lot more prettier and complicated, with a lot of hand work, from embroidery to assembling.
but i like this simple and light version of it,but here,it seems like these celebrities chose the worst prints, colors, and cuts here,i like the ones from ANTIC BATIK,with an amazing beading and embroidery work from india, you would wanna wear them all year long!!

Such great ideas! I love the Gardening Kit one and might pass that idea to my brother to get my mom for motehr’s day. I actually wanted to share that I’m getting her a new cell phone for her special day its the new Samsung T301 slider phone by Tracfone and I wanted to know if anyone has it or has heard of it. I wanted to make sure it is the perfect phone for her. The price is just right and its bluetooth wireless feature is something she’s been wanting. I’d love some feedback please!
