Sandra Bullock Dishes On Her Family's Reaction to Going Blonde: "They Didn't Like It at All"

Call it method hair. When Sandra Bullock dyed her naturally brunette hair a golden blonde to play real life Memphis housewife Leigh Anne Tuohy in her film The Blind Side, her family had a distinctly unfavorable reaction. “They didn’t like it at all,” Bullock told PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of the film due in theaters Nov. 20. “It was entertaining for a couple of months but it’s not really my color palette.” In fact, Bullock says her husband, Monster Garage star Jesse James, did not find her lightened tresses attractive, which was a big relief. “Thank God an important person in my life didn’t want me being blonde. He was like, ‘I don’t like the blonde on you,'” she says. “You want him to say that!” Having experienced a lighter hairdo for months, does the old wives tale that blondes have more fun than brunettes hold true for Bullock? “Not at all” according to the natural dark brunette star. “Fun is what you make. Nobody is going to bring you the fun,” she said. “You got to go out and get it your fun.” One thing Bullock definitely did have fun with was playing a strong feisty woman with a quirky firecracker personality. “There’s no one else like her,” she says of Tuohy. “I’ve never met anyone else like her and I wish there more like her. She doesn’t care what people think. She and I come from very different viewpoints and we meet in the middle very easily because you realize the differences are not that great.” She adds, “I feel very humbled to have been a part of this. The whole experience to me was a once in a lifetime experience. I feel very lucky.” — Paul Chi

I can’t wait to see this movie too!

And I think she looks great blonde, but she has such beautiful brunette hair, I’m glad the blonde isn’t permenant.

This movie looks like a keeper, Sandra is a favorite of mine and the realness that she puts into the movies is what makes her special. The blonde is just part of the movie, thank the heavens, the real part is what she felt and put into what we see. Thanks Sandra

No, Sandra B did not have a baby. She is fighting for custody of her step-daughter right now. I am so excited to see this movie! I have always loved Sandra Bullock, plus Tim McGraw plays her hubby in the movie…BONUS!!

I was lucky enough to see an advanced screening of this movie and it was wonderful. Sandra did an amazing job(as always) and it was just a great story.

Finally! I am so excited to see a movie that portrays adoption of an older child in a positive light! I am so sick of Hollywood showing adoption as a scary, evil, bad thing to do that has horrible consequences!
