Lauren Conrad Dishes on Style, Exercise and the "Boyfriend Layer"

She might be a bona fide California beach girl, but even Lauren Conrad admits to slacking in the exercise department sometimes. For her second Shape cover (her first was January 2008), the New York Times best-selling author chats about her romance with actor Kyle Howard and her new clothing line for Kohl’s while sitting pretty for three very different cover shots. At the beginning of her relationship, Lauren admits to getting soft around the middle. “I call it the ‘boyfriend layer’,” she tells the magazine. “We were having more romantic dinners out, and I was exercising less.” So what’s a girl to do? Take your dates to the gym, of course! “I just ask Kyle, ‘You feel like working out?’ It’s more fun than hitting the gym alone,” says Lauren. The couple spends most of their time outdoors anyway. “We like doing outdoor stuff: tennis, bike riding, kayaking, stand-up surfing, hiking in the canyons around L.A.,” says Lauren. And when the happy couple isn’t exercising together, Lauren is busy working on her newest adventure in design, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s, which will hit stores in October. Her line of affordable and flattering jeans and blouses will be perfect for every shape. “It’s all about finding silhouettes that highlight the best parts of your figure,” says Lauren. As an added bonus, Lauren took three lucky Shape readers with very different body types shopping and shared some fashion advice with them. Pick up the September issue of Shape to hear more of Lauren’s advice on dressing for your body and working out.

Am I the only one that noticed the badly photoshopped cover of her? The spot around her arm clearly shows that she was NOT photographed in the water with a sunset behind her. She was photographed in front of a white screen with NO water. Even the shadows of her legs in the water are backwards.

what a cheap shot.

Mason, I totally agree with you! She is the best normal-headed star out there and absolutely gorgeous!! She is for real! WTG LC!! Can’t wait to see (wear!!) her Kohl’s designs.

I just love her. Go Lauren!

Listen, we all know airbrushing is going on here. I am sure she has lovely abs and a flat stomach but not THESE abs. You can tell a highlighter was used to define them.. let’s not be ignorant here people.

The cover is definately airbrushed, but I wouldn’t hold that against Lauren because this magazine airbrushes all their covers. Although it would be nice if Lauren spoke out about it, and told the magazine that she would like the cover to have minimal airbrushing, she has a great body and she should be proud of it.

As far as people saying that she left the show to get out of the spotlight and now she does all these interviews I believe her reason for leaving the show was that she was sick of having cameras in her every day life, and following her every move. I don’t think she ever said that she planned to have no career at all. At this point she is still able to make a living by doing the things she is interested in, but she has eliminated the invasion of her private life.

I’ve loved Lauren from the Laguna Beach days, and I’m happy with the success that she has found and I wish her all the luck in her future.

I am looking forward to this issue. She is an amazing shape, not too thin with nice natural curves.

Hi Lauren,

I think you are a great example for young adults and that you have proven what a person can accomplish without selling themselves short. Leaving The Hills when you did was a good move and I wish you the best of luck with your clothing line and happiness! =0)
