Jennifer Hudson's $36 Album Cover Dress!

07/21/2008 at 01:00 PM ET

The Oscar winner has worn everything from Oscar de la Renta to Donna Karan, but for the cover of her new album, which hits stores in September, Jennifer Hudson proves that she’s no fashion snob, opting for a simple $36 glitter-striped American Apparel dress. Bargain hunting’s nothing new to the “Spotlight” singer, who readily admits to an obsession with affordable British chain Topshop. But while the cotton dress may have been a bargain, when it came to accessorizing the look she went decidedly high-end, glamming it up with a $475 LAI Vamp belt. We think Jennifer’s cover frock is even more flattering than some of her designer dresses (Oscars anyone?). And what we love most is that it’s a look we can get too! Click here to buy J. Hud’s dress at American Apparel. Interested in more affordable star fashion? Check out other star styles under $100 here including looks from Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Carrie Underwood and more.

That doesn’t even look like Jennifer! It’s so air-brushed. She’s a very pretty girl – I don’t understand why they had to do that.

it’s a great look..wish they hadn’t photoshopped her down to a size 6 when she’s clearly a 12/14, but it’s a great look

Wow, the photoshop/airbrush to reduce her size is so unnecessary. She’s a beauty at her REAL size. To reduce her waist that much – and expect people not to notice – is almost offensive.

I’m with Sandra.

I love it. It’s nice to not see her cleavage for a change. I think the dress looks great, and she probably could’ve gotten a really affordable belt with a similar look as well.

I agree with Kim, she’s usually letting it all hang out there and it’s refreshing to see them put away for a change. Also agree with all the previous posts, first thing I thought was airbrushed. Last I saw she did not have a waist this small. Why downsize the waist and not minimize the arms as well?

I just love her!

I wonder who actually wore that dress-Jennifer’s face looks photo shopped onto it.

Love the cheap dress; however, I’m very disappointed with the photoshop pic. Jen, you are always raving how you “love your size”. Why did you allow them to make you this small? I’m not her REAL size, but I am a very curvy w/ boobs and butt. I admired (note the past tense) her; but now …

I agree with Tiffanie how disappointing for young girls that admire her.

Oh, I thought that was Rhianna. Jennifer Hudson is a beautiful young woman and has talent that can not be denied; it may not have been her decision to allow the extent of airbrushing that was done, but how ridiculous. Who’d she get, Mimi’s retoucher?

It beautiful and all but i agree with everyone else. You can tell the waist is smaller the top is way cute and affordable but come on! that much for a belt she could find at claire’s or the hair supple store! But i do like how it flows to look perfect but the semi messy hair make it look unperfect which puts it all together and gives it a edge!!!

Who’s body is this? It sure isn’t her’s. Too bad.. and I thought she loved her body the way it really is. Large beautiful women ROCK.

I read on either People’s website previously, that this image isn’t photoshopped. She lost a lot of weight.

this photo is so obviously photoshopped like previously stated, it really is a disappointment. she looks so, so, SO MUCH BETTER at her real size. being a full-figured woman is a good thing, you dont HAVE to be skinny to look good! and although i am pregnant right now, my normal weight is 110-120, and a lot of the times i would rather be full-figured than be accused of having an eating disorder all the time!

God Bless her for wearing fashion the average girl can afford. that makes her a trendsetter for the people.

I agree, it is a bit too much photoshopped, but however she did lose a couple of pounds after the role she played in Dreamgirls. She had to gain weight to get the part, since she had the voice. I think she looks good; just too bad everyone knows her dress is super cheap. I’m sure that quick weave on her head cost more, it’s human hair lol.

This photo is NOT photoshopped. The smallest part of EVERYONES middle section is right under the breasts. She has lost a ton of weight and cinching a belt at the smallest part of her middle makes her look one more size smaller. Anyone at home can cinch a belt around the smallest part of their middle and make their waist look a size smaller instantly. Any moron knows that. You all are morons.
