As if being a brand new mom wasn’t enough, Nicole Richie is adding jewelry designer to her resume! The star tells PEOPLE, “It’s all costume jewelry. I like to play with jewelry and mix and match.” Produced with the company Mouawad (who also does Heidi Klum‘s fine jewelry collection), Richie is working with “this really talented woman named Shelley Gibbs. She’s an artist and she sketches everything.” And Richie makes sure to keep baby Harlow at the forefront of her priorities while working on the line. She explains to PEOPLE that “everyone’s been really mellow and able to work around my schedule. If I need to go feed the baby, I do it.” And as busy as she is, Richie’s not stopping at jewelry. We can look forward to her infant and children’s wear lines coming out later this year as well — we even hear whispers of a fragrance from Richie in the not-too-distant future. What does beau Joel Madden think of all of her new projects? He proudly tells PEOPLE, “She’s being modest” about all of her recent achievements. Tell us: Would you buy Nicole Richie’s jewelry line?

The thing that cracks me up is that people are saying what makes her talented enough and skilled enough to be a jewelry designer? Half the jewelry that people wear nowadays is designed by some one else and names like David Yurman, Cartier, Fred Leighton, etc. are slapped on it to hike the price thousands of dollars higher. Let’s be real. Who really cares if she designs jewelry. People are going to buy it anyways. Whether or not you or I purchase it is not going to make or break Nicole Richie’s pockets. Besides, it’s costume jewelry. Its not diamonds. Anybody can design costume jewelry. I can do it, and I can’t even draw stick figures. Give the girl a break for Chrissake! You people are harsh as hell. She’s just trying to make a living just like everyone else. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

I agree with Jennifer. I wouldn’t buy her stuff, but then when I buy jewelry, it’s classic pieces and not celebrity-designed. There are hundreds/thousands of hard-working, creative jewelry designers out there that have honed their craft for years. Give them the business!

Jennifer, what good does college do if you still spell definitely “definately”?

I have admired so many things that you both have done recently. Don’t quit! There are a lot of struggling people in OUR country! I know – I’ve taught in the public school system in urban communities – they are so lacking-just in very basic supplies…Obama is right – there is a race issue in this country – and it needs to be addressed and dealt with head on! Eveyone wants to give somewhere else – we are desperate right here in our own country -give to us Angelina Jolie!

Oh hell no! Every girl likes to play with jewelry but it does not qualify them to have their own jewelry line. Many women have babies and this does not qualify them to have a baby clothing line, but for Nicole Richie, according to her man, she’s greatly accomplished and having a baby and liking jewelry are huge acheivements! Enough so that she gets her own lines. I have friends with more talent in their pinky finger than Nicole Richie, and they unfortunately aren’t discovered because they don’t have a famous dad, publicized drug and eating disorders, and a pop star husband.
