StyleWatch Editors Want to Know Your Summer Hair Secrets!

04/29/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

Who can actually say that they like their hair in the summer? As soon as the humidity rises, we find ourselves with a halo of hair hovering above our head. In our youth, a strategically placed bandanna would work to hide the offending mass of hair, but as working girls, that route doesn’t really fly. The quest for an alternative topical solution led us to a few frizz-fighters that actually work, including the classic Frizz-Ease and a cute headband, like Jessica Simpson’s. We want to know your solutions: How do you tame your frizzies in the summertime? What’s your summer hair secret?

I have super frizzy, especially in the summer. To top it off, I have curly hair. Don’t get me wrongm I love having curly hair, but combined with frizz, I look like I have a mop on my head. I use the frizz-eaze (sp?) styling mousse. It seems to work really well. Or I put it in a fench braid, wit hsome wisps hanging out. Still stylish, becuase braids are in. Headbands are great too! :)

I always wear scarfs in my hair- it’s a quick cute fix!

Once or twice a week I use extra-virgin organic olive oil in my hair. I drench it, wrap it in plastic, and leave it in overnight. It moisturizes my hair, and keeps it from frizzing in the heat.

During the summer I love to where scarves all the time! I work at a coffee shop so I often pull my hair back into a low ponytail, and wrap a mulit-print scarf around it. It’s a quick and fashionable way to look cute for summer!

J.Crew has some really pretty headbands.

I love Jessica’s headband. Headbands are a great accessory that add fun and color to your hair. I think that it is important though to not over do it when wearing hair accessories. For an example, if you are wearing a headband similiar to Jessica’s, wear simple studs in your ears rather than hoops or large chandellier earrings. Great choice Jessica, but then she always looks great!!!!

Heathy Sexy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. They also make an Oatmeal mask that is WONDERFUL. These products work really well and I live in Texas so you can imagine the humidity!!!

hhmm i dont have any problems with my hair in the summer…do people really have this much trouble??…i guess im just lucky…but i think my hairs worse in the winter…it gets dry and the snow and wetness totally ruins any style… i find it alot easier to style my hair and for it to look good in the summer…

I like the hair band look. I have thick curly hair, and use clear mascara to pull them back, it works great!

Nicole G, age 21, Winnipeg, MB: In the summer, I let my curls go, but when I have to be somewhere or look serious, I pull my hair up into a cute twist with some curls hanging loose. Then I use those great elastic-headbands to tame those face-framing strands… it looks pulled together enough for work, and trendy out at night!

What I do especially in the summer weather is just let my hair dry naturally…if im at the beach the wind basically drys my hair and leaves is looking as if my hair has a natural wave. To set it off I mix up some seasalt and water and use a spray bottle to spray it all over my hair. It holds the waves better.

I just started to use some Frizz-ease spray before blow drying, and so far I really love it. My hair looks a lot smoother.

I have incredibly thick, curly hair that just loves to frizz. To make it worse, I live in FLORIDA! However i foudn the most AMAZING product for frizz, it doesn’t make your hair stiff and doesn’t weight down the curl. Alterna’s Hemp texturizing glaze. They also make a Hemp straightening balm that I use when I have 2 hours to iron my hair out straight, but who has that kind of time! It’s a little pricey, about $20 per tube, but it’ll last about 3 weeks if you use the right amount!

Head hands and head scarves are great for bad hair days! And if I didn’t have my straightening iron I would have a lot of them!!

I have generally straight hair but humidity can cause it to curl up or frizz. I find that any leave in straightening balm works. If im desparate i will use my straightener wich always leaves my hair looking great!

I us Sammy gel. It’s kind of like Frizz-ease but not as oily. It works really well and smells awesome!

I have really frizzy hair especially during the summer. After years and years of trying different products to no avail, I bought a bottle Herbal Essences None of Your Frizzines Smoothing Leave in Creme. I didn’t honestly think it would work but to my surprise it keeps my hair tame even during the hottest days. After I get out of the shower, I drench my hair in the creme and let air dry and my naturally curly hair has no frizz to it and its soft. My husband loves the fact that he can run his fingers through my hair unlike other products I’ve tried in the past.

Loving the hairmask from Rituals; It’s a wrap. Decreases frizzyness and it smells wonderfull; people always ask me what kind of perfume I’m wearing but it’s the scent of the hairmask.

I LOVE HEADBANDS!!their a great way to make a boring outfit cute!…i also use aquage shine and finishing spray…it makes my hair incredibly shiney and smooth :)

I have long fine hair. During the summer instead of using a whole bunch of products to style my hair or get some kind of cute due, after a shower I will towel dry my hair as much as possible, then wrap my hair up in a bun. When it is dry, I take it out to reveal loose spiral curls that can look casual or look like i spent hours with a curling iron. It’s healthier for your hair to instead of using all those products and heat!

I love fedora hats! my hair is straight, shoulder lenght and I look great in fedoras! i have 7 of them and I know what I’ll buy next week for starting summer season! :)

I love Frederic Fekkai’s Summer Bandana. It protects your hair with SPF and for those with thick, poufy summer hair, the cream texture helps weigh it down and keep it smooth.

My hair is very thick and straight. In the summer i usually put it back in a ponytail or let it down.

EJ on

I have thick shoulder length hair and I never know what to do with it. I usually just throw it up into a ponytail or twist. I wish there was a way that I could feel comfortable wearing it down. Any ideas??

Okay, a week ago I went to a stylist who must have hated me. I don’t know what crime I committed against her, but I am very, very sorry. To exact her revenge, this lady hacked away at my bust length wavey hair until it was a collar bone length mess of choppy layers! I left the salon in tears, it was just awful. I’m a very long-hair-one-length kind of chick, and this is soooo not me. It actually looks like “the Rachel” which wouldn’t be so bad if it was 1995.

In the mean time, to camouflage my hair disaster, I’ve made myself learn a few new easy updo’s and purchased a bunch of those really wide headbands. They’re actually very cute! Can’t wait ’til it grows back, though!

My Magic Combination: Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner (Walmart et al) and Generic Silk Treatment (from Sally’s, better than Biosilk.) After shampooing, put conditioner in and clip it up while you finish showering, rinse hair last. Use silk treatment while damp, then style. These two are the best hair products I’ve tried, and best of all, you can get them both for less than $13! Erica K, 22, Broken Arrow, OK.

I have thin, curly hair, NOT a good combo, and especially during the summer the curls look dry and messy. I recently tried Pantene Pro-V Style Texturize Spray Wax.

i have natrually wavy hair, but during the summer months the heat turns it into a head of frizz!! so i let my hair dry naturally (scince the blowdryer just seems to add to the frizz)and then run my straightner threw just the top and bottom layer. i still get the body i need from my waves, but the frizz is sanwiched in between the two layers! also a really cute look i am trying to pull off is a low side pony with a twist. all i do is pull my hair into a side pony, tie it with a clear elastic hairband, seperate it just above the band, and then flip the band threw the seperated part! it looks so classy and chic and if you tie your whole look together with a printed head band or head scarf, you will look like you just stepped out of hollywood….which is good for a wisconsin girl like me! =]

I only blow dry my hair halfway, then let the rest dry on it’s own for summery, after the beach look!
