Shops Alert: Gap's Designer Collections

04/17/2007 at 10:30 AM ET

Move over H&M. Make some room Target. Starting today, Gap is introducing a limited edition collection of white shirts designed by three of the hottest design labels in the industry (and winners of the 2006 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund): Doo.Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon. The Gap Design Editions is the retail giant’s first major foray into guest designer collections, and it’s no doubt a response to the high-end collections like Stella McCartney and Proenza Schouler being offered at its competitors. The emerging labels Doo.Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon are favorites of Hollywood starlets like Cate Blanchett, Hillary Swank, and Drew Barrymore. And for $68-$88, you can find fabulous pieces by these designers at your neighborhood GAP and online by clicking here.

These are pretty, and I’m going to the website to poke around. But, apart from the fact that they’re still a little expensive (at least, I can’t pay $68 for a top), they’re all made for people who don’t need to emphasize their waist.

For some folks, empire waists are wonderful. For skinny girls, these waist-less dresses can be cute. But for me, my waist is the only thing I’ve got going for me! I wish more designs would move back toward waist-cinching and a-line. It’s not IMPOSSIBLE to find them, but empire waists cinching below the bust line are a lot more common now.

Give these girls a sandwich!!!! Look at those little legs!!!!! Cute stuff, but I agree….too high for what you are getting and as trendy as they are they would be out of style next season.

The girl in the middle looks so funny! What is she looking at??? The prices are just as funny! Not for me. These girls are way too thin. Hey! Eat something!

What’s with this “style”? Way-too-skinny girls in big ‘ol frumy shirts? I don’t get it. It doesn’t look good.

Gap’s company has actually been struggling for quite a while because of it’s lack of innovation and face for Gap. There clothes have remained the same and little has changed so I’m glad they have started to get more and more influential designers to design for them. Hopefully this will help them.

They look like maternity shirts, and of course are being modeled by a bunch of uber-skinny girls that look ridiculous wearing them. But because they are from the GAP, all kinds of idiots are going to go and pay the $68 for them. How stupid.

Is this fashion? I’m not sure! These girls seem to be hungry and these clothes are really too big for the girls!

Are you kidding me…this is what passes for fashion these days? These girls look like they through on a bed sheet and stood awkwardly in front of a camera. I don’t find any part of the clothing or the models attractive. The shirts are ugly and the girls need some meat on their bones! Sorry, but Gap gets an “F” for this advertising campaign!

I am curious and perhaps someone could help, I keep seeing the term “uber” popping up in some of these blogs in “off the rack” is uber becoming a new slang term of sorts..?? I am wondering what use it stands for in the English language because I know, “uber”, comes from the Germanic language(s). “Uber” has two little dots above the letter “U” and has several meanings…(about, above, across, at, beside, beyond, and by)…forgive me if I did not include all of them.

So, I find myself wondering how can uber be used as a slang term because all of these meanings don’t really relate to any current slang we are using….hhmmm??

Is it because uber somewhat rhymes with super…??
I have no idea!??? Please, help me understand!?

Feed the models!

Ugh!!! $68 for a tank top…maybe if it was BEBE and cute…but these shirts are NOT CUTE. The cut and style is horrible. I agree with Lily…feed the models.

Enough of the starving orphan girls in nighties already!! I’m very slender, and to look like a woman I need clothes that show my curvy waist and hips, not my bony arms and chest!! If the fashion gods are listening: please bring back the princess seam!
