Sniff-n-Tell: Coach's First Scent

03/26/2007 at 10:30 AM ET

Coach may have mastered the purse, but they are novices in the perfume market. The venerable leather goods company is trying its hand at fragrances by introducing the company’s first ever scent aptly called “The Fragrance.” President and creative director, Reed Krakoff, says it was inspired by genet, a wildflower from the South of France, and is a mix of florals, like mimosa and jasmine, with a touch of vanilla. Translation: the scent is young, clean and light, perfect for everyday wear– especially in the upcoming summer heat. A 1.7 oz bottle (left) of “The Fragrance” can be bought for $68 at or try the mini purse spray for $42 in a monagrammed silver tube. Are you going to try Coach’s new fragrance?

I love Coach’s new purfume. It smells like SPRING!

The solid perfume in the shape of the Coach hangtag is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! I’m getting one to hang on my bag!

This perfume is simply amazing. I wear it everyday and I love the chic playful scent. I get compliments on it all the time.

The bottle is absolutely darling! It looks great on my counter and I love that it has the Coach C’s all over it.

The purse spray is also amazing. Its great on plane rides because it’s the exact amount you can have in a carry on. Its perfect for those light touch ups during the day.

Highly recommended!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! Coach is so amazing! i have lots of their bags and plan on buying more! The perfume was definitely a good idea because it is something new in addition to their already great line of merchandise. My favorite is the purse spray. Has anyone seen the new straw bags that are coming out? they look so cute!!

As at least one other person mentioned here, I tend to like citrus more than floral, but this is actually a good scent. What I like most about it is that it isn’t overpowering. It has a “light” Spring smell. Speaking for myself, a strong fragrance can really be overwhelming, turning some people off. I spend all day in customer service, and though I know I shouldn’t, I always have an almost instantaneous negative reaction to anyone who walks up with a scent that I can smell before she gets to my desk and long after she’s left. I think I even assume she’s someone who is going to be difficult to deal with: strong smell = bossy personality. We all respond to smells – they actually cause a neurological reaction in our brains and affect our sense of taste, so I guess it’s natural that I have this reaction, though I always feel a little guilty about it. At any rate, I am very careful about what I wear as a result.
