Beauty Obsession: Smashbox O-Glow

03/12/2007 at 11:00 AM ET

Everyone in StyleWatch’s beauty department (and fashion department, and art department) went crazy for new gel blush from Smashbox called O-Glow. It goes on clear and then (get this!) self-adjusts to match your skin tone as you rub it in to give you just the right natural-looking flush. And it works on every skin tone from super-pale to deep-dark. It also contains Goji Berry-C Complex, an antioxidant-rich concoction to encourage healthy-looking skin. Another added bonus: You only need a teeny bit for each application, so I’m predicting my tube will last me straight through spring. You can get yours for $26 at —Elizabeth Lamont

I’m going to have to find that Blush it would be perfect for me. My skin tone changes so often depending on my sun exposure it gets really hard in summer to find a blush.

That sounds nice. I’ll have to look into getting some.

I was reading a fashion blog (I forget which), and it said that this formula isn’t as amazing as it seems. It doesn’t react to just skin, if you put it on a piece of paper it will turn pink. Therefore it is not adjusted to your skin tone. I don’t think it would work on black people or anyone with a darker or tan skin tone.

Hmmmm??? I have olive color skin, i’m very curious how it would look on my skin.

Thanks for the warning Sarah :-)

I have darker skin and it’s very streaky on me and has little staying power. I think it’s better for paler to medium tones.

Hmm…does anyone else remember that (horrible) gimmick, “Mood” lipstick?? The stuff turned awful ‘shades’ of bright pink and was impossible to remove. Like I want to put that on my FACE?

I was thinking it is like the Mood lipsticks they still sell at the dollar store. So this stuff is prolly a modernized version of it. Personally though, I prefer to use my Tarte cheek stains. Blushing Bride is the perfect colour, and it smells like sweet plums!!!!

I hate to bust someone’s bubble about this product but I really hate it. I tried it at Sephora and it turned a horrible bright pink that was so ridiculously hard to get off. This product is a wonderful idea but please please definitely sample it before purchasing or just stick to a wonderful, neutral shade like NARS Orgasm blush (for the same price!)!

I’d be worried something like this would irritate my skin! For some reason, I was thinking that the gel actually stimulated bloodflow to make one’s cheeks a flushed color. The mention that it even turns pink on paper makes me feel a bit better – I was picturing the hurty LipVenom and Lipfusion products that use pain to stimulate pinkness. Perhaps this product is more like those skin-matching foundations. If that’s the case, I may give it a try. Smashbox products are usually pretty good. My favorite blush is Tarte Tipsy. It knocked my Nars blush down to #2 :) I’m very fair, and it’s flattering year-round. It gives my cheeks a warm glowy color, like I just finished a light workout.

I am really interested in this product, hopefully it doesn’t turn out like “magic lipstick” ( you remember the green lipstick that turned and awful reddish pink on everyone). Smashbox typically makes awesome products, I think 26 dollars for a tube that small is a little too much, thank goodness I still have a gift certificate from my birthday.

gel blush rubs into your sin more nicely and the powered stuff is not how it used to be.

Your *skin is sure to be beautiful with blush gel.

This stuff work really well. I was shocked it worked as well as it claimed (unlike the Imju Fiberwig Fiberwig Mascara which I’m sincerely disappointed with). Anyway two things you need to know about this product. You still have to blend the stuff into your cheek like any other cream or liquid blush. You can’t just slap it on without blending or yes you will end up with crazy hotpink cheeks. Also it does work on darker skin tones because my co-worker went out and got herself after I told how much I loved it and now she’s in love with it herself and has all 5 of her sisters hooked on it.

i have a yellow undertone to my skin and i tan very dark. this works great – it’s not overpowering. it’s my new favorite blush. ^_^
