Becki Newton-- Buy Her Lucky Dress!

03/09/2007 at 10:00 AM ET

Who says swag suites are all about getting? Becki Newton, who plays deliciously catty Amanda on Ugly Betty, donated a silk green and white Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress (size 0, of course) to Working Wardrobes, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk men and women move toward self-sufficiency with everything from job training to new clothing. Newton brought the dress to the Luxury Lounge’s Marie Claire gifting suite and explained its special meaning: she’d worn it for her Ugly Betty screen test. “It was her lucky dress,” said a charity rep. “She knows how much confidence the dress gave her, and she wanted to give that to someone else.” Other donated dresses included Debra Messing’s white drop-waist number by Ports (size 4), along with styles from Debra Messing, Adriana Barraza and Lisa Edelstein. All items will be auctioned off during the launch of Working Wardrobes’ eBay store on June 1, 2007. Until then, visit for more information.

It is good to give to charity, way to go! However a size 0? Just tell every average woman that is a size 0 to stand in line to get this dress. Then give it to the first and only person who is standing in that line…

I love the cut of this dress it’s very sexy. It might be my montior but that color is not appealing.

1. Elle: Some people are a size zero and it’s just their body type, not a reflection on what they eat. I have to lift weights a lot and then chug high calorie protein drinks to gain any muscle mass, and I can’t gain weight… its an ectothermic body type.

2. That dress is stunning! The color is so unique and it’s perfect for spring!!

Thank you Heather, I have the same problem. Most people on here seem to think that if you are thin, than you must have a psychological issue food. We don’t all have eating disorders, sometimes it really is just good ol genetics.

alice–so anything larger than a size 0 equals bad genes? give me a break. i hope you just worded that badly…
& i’m sorry, but giving away a dress that probably was given to her hardly constitues as a charitable act.

Why are women so “catty”? I am sure that Alice and Heather both did not mean anything by what they said about thin women. I am not a thin woman. I struggle with my weight everyday probably the same way Alice and Heather struggle with their weight.
J: Remember this the next time you think someone is offending you, stop, take a deep breath and relax. Rest assured that their world nor comments revolve around you. As for Becki donating the dress, I think she is helping a great cause no matter if the dress was given to her or not. Honestly J, are you really this ignorant?

Dear J,

She says she wore that dress to her “Ugly Betty” screen test. At that point she wasn’t some well-known actress who was receiving free clothes. She was just some hopeful actress on an audition! It was a dress she surely bought on her own. Whatever the case may be, it is wonderful whenever celebrities get involved with charities because it always brings attention to the cause.

Please tell me exactly where I wrote that anyone over a size 0 has bad genes. And please do us all a favor and learn how to read things correctly before you complain. Thank you.
