You Asked, We Found: Liv Tyler's Wide Leg Jeans

03/06/2007 at 01:55 PM ET

On Monday, March 5, there was a photo of Liv Tyler wearing great jeans with the caption “What skinny jean trend?…” What kind of jeans is she wearing? Thank you, Stasia McGrath

First Kate Moss, then pals Nicole and Paris, and even Rachel Bilson were spotted without their signature skinny jeans. Now Liv Tyler is bringing back the wide leg. For a meeting in Beverly Hills on Thursday the star stepped out in a pair of Seven For All Mankind “Ginger” jeans in light weight mercer. The “Ginger” is the widest jean Seven offers and is available at for $143. Wonder who will retire the skinny jean next? And if you are loving her shirt it is the Twisted Ladder Lace Drappe Neck Cardigan by Marc Jacobs, $905, an can be purchased by calling the Boston store (617-425-0707).

I’m hope more designers make wide legged jean, they are so much more flattering for my body.

AnnieM on

I’m too short to wear them, but they look nice on the taller ladies.

Elda on

I like them i think they are really cute but the price. They look so comfy and relaxing! I’d buy a pair on my price wage if i can find some?

I am glad wide leg pants are making a come back! I am tall, almost 6ft, wide leg pants don’t make you look as tall as skinny jeans. Besides, wide leg pants usually make your butt look really good!!! And, remember back in the mid 90’s when wide legs were all the rage!!

Cheers and Enjoy your wide steppin’!

To Elda-

I have a pair of Gap trouser jeans and they look really similar to the ones that Liv is wearing in that picture and they were about 1/3 the price of those Seven jeans (around $50) and they are super comfy!

I am SO glad the wider leg is coming back. I’m 6 feet tall, but no size two so the skinny jean was not a great look for me (unless I tucked them into boots, but even that got tiresome).

I only pray that the high-waisted trend also makes an exit soon. As with the skinny jeans, high-waisted pants take a certain body type and it takes the right figure for the rear end not to look huge in them. Plus where is the fine balance between high-waisted and mom jeans?

Of course! Wow, I’ve been waiting so long for these to come in and when I saw them I knew I had to get them. I think their great. I can’t wait to get my pair.

I love them; but why is she said to be ‘retiring’ her skinny jeans by being seen in these once? I think skinny jeans are fabulous AND I like the wide legged jeanas as well. Why must it be one or the other? If you can carry off either style, then I say go for it!

Delaney on

These are sooo much more flattering on the majority (read: normal-sized) American women. I have hated the skinny leg trend – I love a wide boot-cut style. My favorites are from Wrangler47.

Thank god there are some other trendy options besides the skinny now. Skinny pants or jeans just do not look good on someone like me who has short legs and bigger thighs. Then again, too wide wouldn’t look good on me either. What happened to the bootcut…a cut that flatters most people!

lizz on

they look very nice. i already own a pair that look nice to. i would only recomend these with heels for short people like me though =)

kat on

yep. i’m always going to like boot-cut/flare leg jean. i’m too short to wear wide legs and i don’t resemble a skeleton so i just look…. wrong in skinny leg jeans… oh… to be 5’2” and average weight!

Amber on

Gap has a design just like these, in four colors/patterns, so flattering! But they do tend to stretch, beware

rachel b. on

does this mean, for good, skinny jeans are out while wide are in because of Tyler?

L on

I think the skinny jeans are just that, for skinny people. The majority of women are normal sized, not anorexic. Thank goodness the skinny jean is going back where it belongs-in the closet.

Elda on

Thank you Kristina!!

I agree with you all. I looooove wide leg jeans – and absolutely hate those silly skinny jeans. I don’t think anyone looks good in those – even the celebrities that try to pull it off. What an ugly trend!

I’m all about some wide leg or boot cut jeans – rock on!!!

alice on

Ok, being skinny does not by any means automatically mean “anorexic”. People need to get that stereotype out of there head. Just because its a trend in Hollywood, that doesn’t mean that every thin person you see has a psychological issue with food.

Ashley on

OK, Alice – Being skinny is a TREND???? Do you realize what you just posted???? WHATEVER! Skinny people that think they are so “hot” really annoy me. Get a life – and a body please – it just looks bad when people are that skinny. Can’t wait for the big ‘ol booty to come back!!!

Kristina on

You’re welcome Elda :)

alice on

Yes Ashley, if you could read correctly- skinny is a trend in “Hollywood.” It doesn’t mean that every thin girl in the real world has a freaking eating disorder. Some just have a fast metabolism, for some its heretitary and some just choose to take care of themselves. So maybe you should stop worrying about who thinks they are hot and worry about your own insecurities. And yes dear, I have a life and a body, it just happens not to be overweight.

I love these jeans on Liv she looks great,I just got a pair of black wide leg pants from The New York Company for around $35.00 and there sooooo comfy

It doesn’t really matter to me. I’ve always worn the wide pant leg. I also wear the skinny jeans, but I love to wear my wide leg jeans and wide leg pant suit. It’s great they’re coming back in style. I guess I was out of style when I was wearing them, LOL, but I was in style when wearing skinny jeans, LOL. It really doesn’t matter to me. Whatever you feel comfortable in, go with it, whether it’s in style or not.

Julie on

I have some great wide-leg jeans from Anne Taylor Loft. They’re the “marisa” style — or that’s what it says on the tag! They also have corduroys and dress pants in this style.

Erin on

They really just aren’t my style.

Night on

Liv is so cute and looks great in the wide leg jeans. It kind of makes me want to try them. But somehow I think I’d look huge in them.

Alicia on

I LOVE them!

amnariel on

God, I love this lady! She is so sophisticated and doesn’t follow trends by any cost. That’s what I respect in a woman. I’d always pick wide leg jeans/trousers over skinny ones. If you wanna show off your legs (and that is more than welcomed :)) throw a skirt on :)

Hello!!!! I love your blog! You are exactly what I ‘m looking for. Me, my mum and my mother in law are fanatics of wide leg jeans and pants. I wear my mum’s an my aunt’s flare 70’s jeans since I was 14. I am verry happy cause I grew in the mid of 90’s and 00’s where the wide leg jeans came back. Please tell me where could I found site that will be the paradise of wide leg jeans or pants? I would like also to find loungewear or homewear wide leg pant. (cordardroy or yoga pants). Thank you!
