Who's Behind Madonna's New Necklace?

02/24/2007 at 01:30 PM ET

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but this Oscar weekend, some A-listers are snapping up pieces minus the bling– thanks to Kathleen Cavalaro’s hand-made gold jewelry. Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Hilary Swank walked away from the Adwil suite yesterday with one-of-a-kind wire-wrapped necklaces that Cavalaro designed especially for them. Madonna received an ornate, asymmetrical Cleopatra Necklace, $850. Swank’s necklace features a freshwater pearl centerpiece surrounded by both wire and chain; Paltrow’s features a handmade hoop wrapped in tiny citrines around a large faceted citrine. Also from Kathleen’s collection, Swank received a pair of Carnelian wire-wrap earrings, $195 (already a favorite of Grey’s Anatomy star Kate Walsh), while Paltrow received a delicate chrysophase necklace. Or if those are a little pricey, pick up the more affordable Sophia Necklace, $175, which has already been seen on stars like Kristin Cavalleri.

EWW! That necklace is ugly! It looks like someone just used silly-string and sprayed it there!

Wirewrap necklaces have their own charm and are coming out in more exquisite ways. I love the fact that it’s being used as an alternate and I can’t wait to see it on the red carpet.

I’m not a big fan of this one but I like the whole concept. IT’s great that they’re ready to give up all the bling! Especially with Blood Diamond being nominated. Very appropriate!

It’s stunning! I can’t wait to see more of this style.

Oh my gosh, it looks like a bunh on necklaces tangled up together. Not cute!

the necklace is wacky, tacky and too long to wear around your neck because of the wire wrap. not the best Madonna jewelry line.

I agree with “Marissa!!!”. I does look like silly-string foam that dried and then sprayed with gold paint. I’m not into the “kid inspired” looking bling. Gold with jewels are more elegant for this type of event.

I hate it. I love diamonds. I am a total girly-girl/diamond wearer everywhere. Hasn’t she ever heard that diamonds are a girls best friend.
