Scarlett & Nicole Start A Trend: 60's Printed Dresses

01/31/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

We’ve hit that time of winter where those of us in chilly climates can only dream longingly of wearing summer clothes — and sixties-style printed dresses are at the top of our list. Bright colors — like Scarlett Johansson’s fuschia– and swirling patterns –like Nicole Richie’s baroque flowers — add major pop to simple shapes. Wear them now with tights or bust them out when the weather gets warmer with a great pair of wedges.

Get the Look:

Star Splurge: Get a real Pucci like Scarlett’s from, $1380, or try this beaded mini from Milly at, $435.

Investment Pieces: Get groovy with a T Bags dress from, $175, or get some flower power with this Rebecca Taylor trapeze from, $371.

Style Steal: Get the look for way less with this knit shift from, $79 or this bright babydoll from, $38.

Get it on eBay: You’ll usually find some affordable knockoffs mixed in with a few vintage originals here. Search for Pucci Dresses on eBay.

I love the dresses, but, they are way too short! I could never pull anything like that off- even with tights… but they look nice and fresh.

I’d love them with jeans, but these are waaaay to short for an everyday person to wear!

I think Nicole’s dress has a really unusual pattern—very unique, and I like it a lot. On the other hand, Scarlett’s dress looks like it’s straight out of my mother’s closet, and it was a dress that looked double-ordinary 35 years ago. So, yes to Nicole—and no to Scarlett, who still manages to look bland even in bright colors!

Nicole Richie looks like she wearing Wedgewood….I wonder if she knows Wedgewood high heels do in fact exist!!
Then she would be the perfect collector’s item.

As for Scarlett’s get up, I am just glad it’s not the 60’s we’re living in right now, for fashion sake that is!!!

The 60’s was a great decade for everything, but the fashion is still in serious question!

Do we actually know who makes Nicole Richie’s dress? Is it also Pucci? Thanks!

Nicole looks amazing!! I love the pattern, colors, and cut of her dress! I think it’s really important that the top half is more conservative becuase it balances out all of the leg she is showing. I don’t like the style or color of Scarlett’s though. I think that this is a style where you have to be rather flat-chested to pull it off becuase it’s such a ‘cutesy’ dress, and it looks awkward on Scarlett

These girls both look very cute. Love Scarlett Johansson, she always looks great. Nicole Richie looks very sweet and put together, the blue is very flattering on her.

Oh wow, I love Nicole’s dress. The blue is nice and I like the pattern. The collar and sleeves on her dress are nice too. I love Scarlett, but I’m not fond of the color and the pattern. Someone posted a good idea, these dresses would look decent with a pair of tights or something if you’re scared to show too much leg, you could always cover up using the imagination.

I dont like any of these dresses, they look like very long ugly t-shirts

nicole looks really cute but i dont care for the look on scarlett since it doesnt flatter her and the color doesnt compliment her skin tone…but i love nicole’s dress and her simple look. i can smell a trend starting i just wish it was a little more wearable.
