Forest Whitaker Gives Back at Swag Suite

01/22/2007 at 03:30 PM ET

Taking everything that isn’t tacked down in a swag suite can be awfully tempting for most, but apparently, not all stars are susceptible. Turning the tradition of the swag suite on its head, Golden Globe winner Forest Whittaker spent an hour talking to the various nonprofit organizations assembled at the GBK suite at the Friar’s Club in Beverly Hills. During his conversation with Educating Young Minds founder Angeles Nichols, he realized one of his good friends Bill Duke was a board member. He promised, “I’ll give him a call tomorrow!” to ask about ways he can help the group in the future. The actor then spent time chatting with representatives from Habitat for Humanity, Amberwatch, and Global Green. GBK president Gavin Keilly remarked, “Forest pretty much left empty-handed. That didn’t make the vendors the happiest people but Forest took time with what he thought it should be about. That says a lot about who he is.”

He’s so talented and down to earth- I was so excited he won the Golden Globe. He deserved it.

What a wonderful guy. That is so good to hear. Thanks for sharing something uplifting. He’s also been married to his absolutely gorgeous wife for more than a decade and it’s the only marriage for both of them. I’m glad he won the golden globe! I hope we see more of this kind of reporting, good news is always nice to hear, unfortunately it’s not what sells! Anyway this was a great read, thanks People!

Bravo! It should go without saying that this was a stand up thing to do. Why do Celebs need a swag station at every awards show and they already make enough money to buy everything they are getting for free. I mean I have seen Swag events where LaLohan snags 20 pairs of shades from a Soltice both ( does she need them can she afford them herself). Also last years comments by Megan Mullahy ( spelling) being offended that swag at last years Day Tim Emmy’s was taxed. I pay taxes on everything, why shouldn’t she, because she has a talk show ( err cancelled). Stop being selfish and give instead of take! Bravo Again Forrest Whittiker, Maria Bello etc etc
