How To Make Your Dog The Best Dressed Pooch!

10/11/2006 at 12:08 PM ET

As Olympia Dukakis famously said in Steel Magnolias, “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.” But that doesn’t mean that we can’t help them out (as Paris is demonstrating, left)! After much ooh-ing and ah-ing over cute the puppies pictured in our Stars and Their Dogs! gallery, we came up with some of our favorite items for the totally pampered pooch (like Paris Hilton’s, left).

Halloween is approaching, so why not dress your dog up too? Go the barnyard route with a Pig, $35 or Cow costume, $35. Or go traditional with a Pumpkin outfit, $25.

Of course, that means winter is approaching, too. How about a Yellow Slicker from Target, $30, for rainy days? Or a Down Parka, $75, for snowy days?

Is your dog a rock n’ roller, like Ashlee Simpson’s yorkie? How about getting him a rock t-shirt, from “legendary bands” like The Beagles or Bone Jovi, $20? Or how about Notorious P.U.G. for a hip-hop hound?

And as much as we all love purses, sometimes you need something a little sturdier to carry your pooch in. If you are a Chanel fan, you might like this Quilty Bag, $159. Go girlie with this Pink Patent Doggie Satchel, $69, or preppy with this Companion Road Tweed Bowling-Bag Pet Carrier.

Trying to ween Fido off of munching on your designer shoes? Why not get him his own pair— how about a black Jimmy Chew, chic cheetah Manolo Barknik, hot pink Bark Jacobs, and zippy zebra Dolce & Grrrbana, $15 each? Or is he more of a purse pooch? Get him a Kate Spayed or a Drooly & Bark, $15 each.

Those dogs are too cute! I am dying to buy those costumes for my dog too.

It’s what Cerberus would look like if he’d been guarding the gates to Liberace’s house.

I have two chihuahuas of my own, and they have never been that well-dressed! That said, I wonder if Paris actually takes the time to nurture and cuddle with her pups. I also wonder if she is the one hard at work potty training the chis….they can be difficult!! Hmmm………..

I have a chihuahua he loves his clothes and goes every where with me. I get tons of excessories online to buy him. I think she loves them, if not she wouldn’t buy them all the little things she does. I love that people are getting more into having their animals with them. Dogs love going out just like we do!

buying your dog (or cat) clothes, has got to be the biggest waist of money. unless, it’s 27 degrees below zero then your dog should have a sweater. otherwise, it’s really annoying to look at. but then again i’m not a girly girl and i don’t enjoy looking at prissy dogs and their owners.

‘How to Make Your Dog The Best Dressed Pooch’

1. have absolutely no purpose for being on this earth
2. have waaay too much time and daddy’s money to spend.
3. be desperate enough to get your picture taken no matter what.

PEOPLE, c’mon really. if you’re the type to dress up your little dog you already know where to get cute dog clothes. ENOUGH OF PARIS HILTON ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!! she doesn’t make the world a better place, she doesn’t make the world a more entertaining place, or even a more interesting place. let me speak for the millions of people out there and ask you stop featuring her so much. i feel sorry for the dogs.

Ceberus and Liberace — that comment is SO literate, and truly worth a giggle! As for me, I’m excited to know the best places to shop for my pug before Halloween. I mean, I dislike Paris Hilton, too, but I’m in love with my dog so I enjoyed the shopping tips enormously — thanks!

How about not dressing your dog at all!? They are cute as can be without the silly frocks Paris decides to put her pups in!

Those poor dogs are going to need therapy.
