Vera Wang's Show of Courage

09/14/2006 at 05:25 PM ET

The saying goes “the show must go on” and for designer Vera Wang, those words have never been harder than they were today. On the morning of her highly anticipated Spring 2007 runway show, her beloved father passed away. A seminal figure in Wang’s life and career, it is he whom she credits as encouraging her to first create bridal gowns. The sad news was conveyed to the show’s attendees by a simple note found on each chair. It read “In memory of C.C. Wang.” Unable to cancel or reschedule, the famously tough designer bravely made an appearance. At the end of her beautiful and inspiring show, Wang walked solo down the runway, tears streaming down her cheeks, while the crowd which included Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kanye West, rose in ovation to salute her. There was hardly a dry eye in the room. “It was incredibly beautiful, one of the most spectacular shows I’ve seen in a while,” says PEOPLE Style Director Susan Kaufman. “It was a special moment.”

If you’d like to pass along your wishes to Vera, you may leave your thoughts here and we’ll see that she gets them.

Dear Ms. Wang,

Please accept my condolences at such a difficult time. I’d like to share a thought I hope you will be able to find comforting. Revelation 21:3,4 describes a time when death will be done away with forever, where it says “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”.

Sorry for your family’s loss.

I know it is in God’s Hands that he will fly & soar above you. Your Dresses inspired me to find just the right one.
My Mom died at 19 so finding the right dress was a tough path. I watched all your designs & sketches & tried on a ton till I got the perfect one.

Ms. Wang,
You are and have always been a figure of inspiration for me. As an aspiring young designer, you have been a constant ideal for me. I am most sorry for the passing of your father. I admire you all the more for making the appearance at your show and want you to know how you’ve continued to reaffirm for me that you’re the kind of woman worthy of being looked up to. My prayers are with you and your family and they will continue to be.

All the best,
Morgan Brown

Vera! She is so so wonderful! Ever since I was a little girl I knew that one day she will design my wedding gown! I am so proud of her for being such a strong person as to show up at her show right after such a horrible tragedy!
