Would you wear it? Skinny Jeans

09/06/2006 at 05:46 PM ET

Skinny jeans — just the words alone seem to strike terror into the hearts of many women, but as it says in PEOPLE’s Fall Stylewatch issue, anyone can wear them — honest! Contrary to popular opinion, this look is not just for the waifish and slim of hip/thigh/butt. Within the skinny jeans world, there are a variety of cuts, lengths, and widths of the slim styles that can flatter any body type. And remember, it is all about proportion so consider wearing a longer, looser top with tighter jeans to balance yourself out.

1. If you are more petite, try a cropped style (like the J. Brand jeans, right) that really shows off a hot pair of heels.
2. If you are curvier, try a pair that scrunches around your ankle, which creates the same slimming illusion as a pair of bootcut jeans (see Kate Beckinsale, left).
3. If you want to make your legs look endlessly long, try a long pair of jeans pulled down over super- high heels.
4. If you don’t want to invest in designer options like the celebs, everyone from Target to the Gap is offering the look for less.

Tell us what you think: Do you like skinny jeans? Is this a trend you will try this fall?

So after spending several months mercilessly making fun of skinny jeans, I decided I suddenly had to have them. My husband was skeptical, but now he says their his favorites. It helps that I’m tall and skinny, but I am hippy too and the jeans don’t accentuate that like I expected. Plus I feel so cute in them! That’s what fashion is about–at least for me–fiving yourself a confidence boost!

Skinny jeans are great!! “Skinny jeans” are for small, petite, skinny women, not bigger size women, so if you are bigger than a size 7 I wouldn’t suggest wearing these.

J Brand Jeans have the best fit of all and if you are not comfortable in them they have so many leg openings from super skinny to boot cut and the look amazing on!! I cant believe every guy looks at me in them and im married!! I have 4 pairs and i cant wait for more!!

These don’t look good on anyone in real life. I am a size 0 to 3 (depending on the brand and time of the month) and I’m 5’7″ so I thought that skinny jeans would look okay on me – wrong!!! Ugh!!! I never new I actually had hips until I tried them on. I’ve tried on pair after pair and I always end up disappointed. Skinny jeans look okay on emo boys and that is it. Just say “no” to skinny jeans!

Skinny jeans are ok, if they fit you right. I have bought my first pair in Europe, in January 2005.They were the IT thing to have in Europe, at the time. My question is: are they really still hot??? I mean, if an american girl/woman goes this winter to Europe and wears skinny jeans, will this be as if she is 2 years too late for them?! Why it’s always this time gap between european fashion and north american one? In which North American fashion magazine can you see what is really hot and trendy in Europe?

Skinny jeans are bomb!

They’re chic, sexy, urban, and flattering.
They are pants that fit and show off your body – I don’t need that ugly boot cut or flare.

Why would you want to wear any other cut?

(AG Jeans, J Brand Jeans, and Guess)

The bottom line is this: even if you think you look good in skinny jeans (and maybe you do), you will look BETTER in flared jeans. It’s a matter of balance…Sweat pants are “skinny”. Flared jeans have style. Really, jeans ending at your ankle and your whole shoe showing? Sounds like what they used to call “high waters”.

Listen, Skinny Jeans are Pimpin’.
ANYONE can wear them.
All of u who say it looks better on fit people, you’re not 100% right, it looks good on both, actually.

I’m not skinny, but im not curvy. Im fit, but not TOO fit.
Wear them with heels! I have like, 6 pairs , and they all match with ALL of my heels!

BUT…..Could it really be a health risk??
