Would you wear it? Skinny Jeans

09/06/2006 at 05:46 PM ET

Skinny jeans — just the words alone seem to strike terror into the hearts of many women, but as it says in PEOPLE’s Fall Stylewatch issue, anyone can wear them — honest! Contrary to popular opinion, this look is not just for the waifish and slim of hip/thigh/butt. Within the skinny jeans world, there are a variety of cuts, lengths, and widths of the slim styles that can flatter any body type. And remember, it is all about proportion so consider wearing a longer, looser top with tighter jeans to balance yourself out.

1. If you are more petite, try a cropped style (like the J. Brand jeans, right) that really shows off a hot pair of heels.
2. If you are curvier, try a pair that scrunches around your ankle, which creates the same slimming illusion as a pair of bootcut jeans (see Kate Beckinsale, left).
3. If you want to make your legs look endlessly long, try a long pair of jeans pulled down over super- high heels.
4. If you don’t want to invest in designer options like the celebs, everyone from Target to the Gap is offering the look for less.

Tell us what you think: Do you like skinny jeans? Is this a trend you will try this fall?

Skinny Jeans are hot. I would definitely wear them with heels or flats. I’m short, so it would work great for me! :)

I agree with those who claim skinny jeans are unflattering on everyone. I love revisiting 80s music, but I always was grateful the fashion (for the most part) was left in that decade. I’m considered a skinny person (size 2 to 4), but as someone who is petite with muscular calves and small ankles, skinny jeans made me look and feel like unattractive and lumpy. I’m crossing my fingers that this trend is a flash in the pan and goes away quickly, especially I live in a climate where the trendy boots that go with them are also extremely impractical and silly.

You guys are silly. Girls in california have been wearing skinny jeans as long as the 80s have been back in the US…like 2 years ago! Like em, don’t like em, just wear what you like and don’t worry what others “would wear” !!!…unless you have thunder thighs, then please, please do not wear cig jeans…especially not with flat round toe shoes…asking to look obese…

Hi, the shoes make all the difference if your a woman between the size of 2-10 with a high waist the maryjane flats look really good…but make sure you get the jeans that kinda pass the ankle…for women 11-+size and you have huge thighs stay with the extra long pants but with heels…it slims your legs but the height ads extension to your leg. If your rather round in the mid-section its a good idea to have an extra long shirt to ad proportion to the legs. And always go for the darker wash it is always more flattering. Another thing I found is leg warmers add proportion to the skinny jean and look really cute for fall. Not bright leg warmers keep with neutral earth tones or black with a nice dark denim and wedged heels.

I hate the look! How many women, in the real world, can wear this look? I say, if you work out 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, wear them, if not, you might want to re-think your choice of pants.

I’m loving skinny jeans tucked into my boots, they are like leggings. That’s the only way I’ll wear them, tucked in and with lots of layers.
